Prerequisites
Power Apps, a suite of apps, services, connectors, and data platforms from Microsoft, allows users to build custom apps for their business needs without extensive coding knowledge. Before getting started with Power Apps, users should meet several prerequisites. A basic understanding of how apps function and some familiarity with Microsoft Office tools can be beneficial. As for technical prerequisites, an Office 365 or Microsoft 365 subscription that includes Power Apps is required. You need a supported web browser (like Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, or Firefox) for creating and running apps, as well as a reliable internet connection. In addition, if you intend to work with specific data sources or APIs, you'll need suitable access permissions. Lastly, while not mandatory, some knowledge of data models and relational databases, as well as the ability to grasp basic logic and business workflow concepts, would enhance your proficiency in creating and managing apps in Power Apps.
To use Power Apps, users must have a valid license. This can be either a Dynamics 365 license or a standalone Power Apps license. For Power Apps, there are the Power Apps Premium plan, which allows individuals to run unlimited apps, and the Power Apps per app plan, which enables individual users to run specific apps. The Dynamics 365 licenses, on the other hand, cover various business function areas such as Sales, Customer Service, Field Service, Finance, and Supply Chain Management among others, and the licensing can be per user or based on device usage. Each license type provides different levels of access and capabilities within Power Apps, so the choice would depend on the specific requirements of the user. Always check the latest Microsoft documentation or consult with your IT department or vendor to ensure you have the most appropriate and up-to-date licensing information.
